A missing profile code can stop your UTME plans before registration even begins. Thankfully, you can retrieve JAMB profile code details through JAMB’s official SMS route when you still control the phone number used to create the profile.
Don’t guess commands or pay anyone who promises a quick fix. The right message, sent from the registered SIM, is usually all you need.
Know what the JAMB profile code does
JAMB creates a profile code after linking your National Identification Number, or NIN, to your candidate record. You need it for important UTME services, including buying an e-PIN and starting registration.
The profile code differs from your JAMB registration number. A registration number comes after you complete UTME registration. Your profile code comes earlier, so losing it doesn’t mean you need a new NIN or a new JAMB profile.
Keep the code in a secure note after you recover it. Also save the phone number connected to the account, because that line is the key to future SMS requests.
How to retrieve JAMB profile code by SMS
JAMB’s official instruction for 2026 is straightforward. Use the same number that generated the original profile code, then send the message to one of JAMB’s approved short codes.
Send the correct SMS command
Open the normal SMS app on the registered phone line. Create a new text message containing only:
RESEND
Send it to 55019 or 66019.
JAMB states this instruction on its official FAQ page. The reply should return your profile code to that phone number.
Do not add your name, NIN, email address, quotation marks, or any extra sentence to the message. A different format can cause the request to fail.
The SMS must come from the same mobile number linked to your JAMB profile. Using a parent’s, sibling’s, or friend’s number will not retrieve the code.
Check the reply before taking another step
Wait for the network response and read every message in the conversation thread. Sometimes the code arrives in an earlier or separate message, especially if your inbox is crowded.
Once you receive it, write it down accurately. Then use it only through official JAMB channels. If you are trying to purchase a UTME e-PIN, JAMB’s e-PIN services page includes options to retrieve a profile code and check a payment transaction.
Fix common problems with profile code recovery
A failed SMS does not always mean JAMB has lost your record. Start with the phone number and message details before repeating the request.
You used a different or replacement SIM
This is the most common problem. The number must match the one you used when JAMB first generated the profile code. Even if the new line is registered in your name, JAMB’s SMS system may not recognise it as the number on your candidate profile.
If the original SIM is still yours but inactive, lost, or damaged, contact your network provider about recovering the line. Take the matter seriously, because access to that number also affects password and account recovery.
Where you cannot regain the registered number, visit a JAMB State Office for official guidance on your record. Go with your NIN slip or card and any relevant JAMB documents. Do not rely on an agent’s promise that they can change account details.
The SMS does not send or no reply arrives
First, confirm that your line has network signal and can send ordinary SMS messages. Check that you typed RESEND exactly, with no extra characters.
Next, restart the phone or try again later if the network is busy. Avoid sending many repeated messages within minutes, because it can make it harder to track the response.
JAMB’s published recovery instruction does not list a separate profile-code recovery fee. Your mobile network may still apply its normal SMS charge, so keep enough airtime for a text message. If the exact command goes through from the correct line but you still receive no usable response, take screenshots of the sent message and visit a JAMB State Office.
An accredited CBT centre can help with a later JAMB registration process when JAMB permits it. However, it should not be your first stop for a lost profile code. The official recovery method is SMS from your registered line, and a JAMB office is the better escalation point for record or phone-number issues.
Protect your JAMB details after recovery
Your NIN, profile code, email address, password, and registered phone number belong to your admission record. Treat them like bank details. Do not post screenshots of them on social media or send them to unverified WhatsApp contacts.
After you retrieve JAMB profile code information, store it in a password-protected note or a private notebook at home. Parents and guardians can keep a backup, but the candidate should still know the details.
If you later forget your JAMB profile password, JAMB’s FAQ gives a different command: send PASSWORD followed by a space and the email address from the same registered line to 55019 or 66019. That command is for passwords, not profile codes.
A calm recovery process saves time
To retrieve JAMB profile code details, send RESEND from the original phone number to 55019 or 66019. The process is short, but accuracy matters.
Keep control of the SIM linked to your NIN and JAMB account. That single habit can prevent stressful delays when registration, result checking, or admission services open.
