Overview of Present State of Education in Nigeria.

The present state of education in Nigeria could best be described as deplorable, if not a completely failed system from north to south, east, and west, though with little variation in the level of failure in each region. The decadence is overwhelming. Different factors are responsible for these failures, but the most important one is caused by successive poor governance over the years, which, through bad policies and poor investment, has rendered the education sector unproductive.
Over 60% of present-day Nigerian youths have been caught up in some dangerous social vices and negative productivity, which is a direct effect of what society has made of them. For instance, how do we explain the fact that a country highly blessed with many human and natural resources has the highest rate of out-of-school children in the world (UNICEF), provides the lowest education budget for the teeming youth, and has a multi-dimensional poverty rate in the world?
On the side of parenting, which is the first school of the child, most parents have abdicated their responsibility due to poverty, ignorance, and fear of their violent children. How can such a nation boast of a bright future for the seventh-most populated country in the world? Much needs to be done by all, mostly the agents of change.
